Getting acquainted with Toronto and want to see more than the typical tourist sights?

The New York Times’ recent “36 Hours in Toronto” article highlights some of Toronto’s more eclectic neighborhoods, from West Queen West to Leslieville to Ossington Avenue, which some local wags have already dubbed the “Next West Queen West.”

But if you’re looking for a more “feet-on-the-street” way to learn about Toronto neighborhoods, take a free walking tour with TAP into TO, the city’s official “greeter” program.

You can choose which neighborhood you’d like to visit or let the greeter — a volunteer tour guide — pick a favorite area. Either way, you’ll be matched up with an enthusiastic local resident-turned-guide who’s passionate about his or her neighborhood.
