You may need to buy new stamps, since Canada Post just raised the postal rates.

And if you’re new to Canada, you may be surprised to learn that Canada Post sells three different categories of letter stamps: one for mail within Canada, one for mail from Canada to the United States, and one for mail from Canada to (non-U.S.) international destinations.

Effective January 11, 2010, the cost of mailing a regular letter is now:
$.57 within Canada
$1.00 from Canada to the U.S.
$1.70 from Canada to other international destinations.
