Ang U.S. ay maaaring magkaroon ng Punxsutawney Phil, but Canada has its own group of groundhogs who forecast the weather every year on February 2nd, otherwise known as Groundhog Day.

Ang pinaka-tanyag na maaaring maging Wiarton Willie, who looks for his shadow on Ontario’s Bruce Peninsula, but there’s also Sam Schubenacadie at Nova Scotia, Brandon Bob sa Manitoba, at Balzac Billy sa Alberta.

Ayon sa alamat, kung ang groundhog ang nakikita ang kanyang anino sa 2nd ng Pebrero, it means that winter will last for six more weeks. As the CBC says,

It’s always been a pack of lies, talaga, but it’s fun, at we need fun if we are to survive another Canadian February.
