The best things in Montreal are free

montreal-jazz-festivalFollowing up on our recent post about a free Cirque du Soleil show in Quebec City, here’s the latest on free events in Montreal:

Soul-pop icon Stevie Wonder will perform a free concert in Montreal tomorrow — on Tuesday, June 30 — to open the city’s annual International Jazz Festival. The free music begins at 9:30pm at La Scène General Motors (Rue Ste-Catherine Ouest at Rue Jeanne-Mance).

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the 2009 Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will run from June 30 to July 12.

There are other free concerts every day of the festival. You can search for free events from the festival’s home page.

While performances by the most notable artists aren’t free — you can buy tickets here — many of the big names in jazz will be here. Besides, Montrealers know how to throw a great party!

And if you’re looking for even more free stuff to do in Montreal, check out these Free Montreal! tips from National Geographic Traveler and “Ten Free Things to Do in Montreal” from About.com.
